Local Bahamas Politician Not Charged in Travolta Mistrial

The Bahamas lawmaker who is responsible for the mistrial in the John Travolta extortion case will reportedly not face charges of being in contempt of court.

"You have been rightly ridiculed locally and internationally," Senior Justice Anita Allen said after considering punishing local politician Picewell Forbes, the Associated Press reports. "It is my opinion that you have suffered enough."

In the case, charges were filed against ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne and his lawyer Pleasant Bridgewater for attempting to extort $25 million from the Golden Globe-winning actor after the passing of his son Jett. Both defendants pled not guilty.
