David Copperfield’s Attorney: Accuser Charged with Prostitution
Earlier this month it was announced that illusionist David Copperfield will not face charges from federal prosecutors in a rape investigation. Now, the performer's rep tells ET that his accuser has been charged with making "yet another false claim of rape" and charged with prostitution.
Copperfield's attorney, Patty Eakes, says, "Last week federal prosecutors dropped their criminal investigation of David Copperfield, and, this week, local authorities have charged Mr. Copperfield's accuser with making yet another false claim of rape, this time against a Seattle-area businessman, and with prostitution. These developments vindicate Mr. Copperfield and confirm what he has said all along -- this woman tried to extort money from him by making a false claim. Thankfully, authorities have now stepped in to stop her."
Copperfield's accuser, reportedly a former Miss Washington contestant, claimed the illusionist sexually assaulted her on his private island in the Bahamas in 2007. Copperfield's lawyers said he denied the allegations.
