Director Roman Polanski Arrested
Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski, who fled the U.S. in 1978 following his guilty plea to having sex with a 13-year-old girl, was arrested in Switzerland on Saturday.
The Associated Press says the 76-year-old ‘Chinatown’ and ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ director was arrested at the airport after flying in for the Zurich Film Festival, where he was expected to receive an honorary award.
"There was a valid arrest request and we knew when he was coming," a spokesman from the Swiss Justice Ministry tells the AP. "That's why he was taken into custody."
