Mel Gibson Crashes Car in Malibu

ET has confirmed with the California Highway Patrol that Mel Gibson lost control of his car Sunday night, causing him to run off a road in Malibu.

Law enforcement officials tell ET the damage to Gibson's 2008 blue Maserati was moderate and was found to the front right part of the vehicle. The car ran into the rocky hillside of Malibu Canyon around 8:35 p.m. and was later towed. Gibson's rep confirms to ET that the actor is fine.

According to police, no alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident, nor was the actor on a cell phone. Gibson told law enforcement that he did not know how or why he lost control of the car. The actor had a friend pick him up at the scene.
