ET brings you footage of attorney Gerald Shargel speaking out following his client Robert Halderman's arraignment in the David Letterman extortion case.
“There is another side to the story, and if I just listened to what prosecutors said, I would have been out of business a long time ago,” Shargel said at a press conference.
“This story is far more complicated than what you heard this afternoon,” he continued. “This story is far more complicated than that two-minute statement by the assistant district attorney.”

On Friday in court, John Travolta's lawyer Michael McDermott denied attempting to set up one of the defendants involved in a trial related to an alleged extortion attempt.
The Associated Press says McDermott told the court he was following the police’s directions when he covertly taped conversations with former Bahamas senator Pleasant Bridgewater, who along with medic Tarino Lightbourne is being prosecuted in the trial for allegedly attempting to extort $25 million from Travolta.
The AP says McDermott testified that police asked him to meet Bridgewater in a room rigged with hidden cameras, and he thought he couldn’t say no to the authorities. Bridgewater's attorney countered that as a lawyer McDermott should have known he didn't have to take part in the sting. "I'm a commercial litigator," McDermott replied. "I am not a criminal lawyer."

On Thursday night's "Late Show," David Letterman said he'd had affairs with female employees and had been targeted by someone trying to extort him over the relationships.
After performing his opening monologue as usual, Letterman took a seat at his desk and explained -- with a mix of seriousness and his trademark humor -- that about three weeks ago he'd received a package from an individual threatening him to pay $2 million or chance having the news of his affairs come to light.
Letterman said he went to his attorney about the threat and they decided to arrange a meeting with the individual allegedly attempting to extort him. After the meeting, during which the alleged extortionist reiterated his intentions to disclose Letterman's affairs in a screenplay, Letterman said he and his lawyer called the Special Prosecution Bureau, a division of the Manhattan district attorney's office.

Chynna Phillips is opening up to ET about the firestorm of controversy engulfing her family following her sister Mackenzie's claims of an incestuous relationship with their father, '60s icon John Phillips.
“I do feel like I have to speak about it publicly because of the fact that I love my sister, and I do know that the allegations are true. Are the details around everything that she says in the book true? That I cannot confirm one way or the other because I wasn’t there, and they were on drugs,” Chynna tells us, referring to the claims in Mackenzie’s book High on Arrival, in stores now.
“How can anything be completely accurate when you’re high on drugs? That’s just impossible,” she adds.
