After she made headlines for replacing Paula Abdul on the judges' panel of next season's "American Idol," Ellen DeGeneres is taking on critics who have questioned how qualified she is to judge the hit singing competition.
On Tuesday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," the comedienne and talk show host said:
"Apparently, there's a lot of debate going on right now, whether I'm qualified or not to be the new judge on 'American Idol'... I'll tell you right now, how I know I'm going to be a great judge -- because I've spent my whole life being judged. So, I know what it's like. So, I will be kind. I will be compassionate. I will be empathetic, and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean.”

ET has the latest...
Legal reps for David Hasselhoff are disputing the Internet reports that claim the actor was taken to the hospital on Sunday for excessive drinking.
Hasselhoff's reps tell ET that he called the paramedics after he took a combination of the drugs Antabuse, which helps prevent alcoholics from drinking, and the drug Antivert, which he was taking to help treat an ear infection.
His reps say the drug combination interfered with his equilibrium and made him feel ill. He was released from the hospital after being treated for an hour.

Former "The Hills" star Lauren Conrad headed to the beach over the weekend -- and it was all for a good cause! The beauty, along with volunteers from Kohl's Department Store, took part in California Coastal Cleanup Day, presented by the California Coastal Commission and Whole Foods Market. Kohl's is an official sponsor of the event. The statewide beach and park cleanup was part of an effort to encourage Californians to care for the conditions of the ocean and state.
